In 1605 the first edition of? “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quijote of la Mancha” was published, the most universal Spanish literary work. In this regard, Castile-La Mancha had the responsibility for leading the celebration of the IV Centenary, paying homage to the genius of the work and the constellation of dreams and realities that the figure of Quijote represents.
It was an open event, because the universe that revolves around this figure is almost infinite. Don Quijote is a figure from La Mancha, but belongs to all of mankind. The objective was to make this Centenary unique because of its capacity to arouse, mobilize and motivate society and social-economic agents through sharing an operational vision.
It was and still is, since the spirit of Quijote does not die with the ending of its centenary, that the general approach of the Don Quijote Routes continues with the passing of the years, as they are considered to be European Cultural Itineraries because of their cultural and environmental value, the intention to invite people to discover the region chosen by Cervantes as the cradle of the ‘ingenious gentleman’ has remained firm, as has the intention to offer the traveller the chance to travel to places that have formed part of our memory for 400 years.
We invite you to enjoy the longest eco-tourist trip in Europe: to accompany Don Quijote of la Mancha through the centuries.
